Visionaries: a multi-sensory experience
L’Allegro, il Penseroso… Part I
Music by G. F. Handel
Text by John Milton

Experience Handel/Milton’s L’Allegro through all your senses other than sight. Enter into the historical hall of The Vache house to hear our singers and orchestra perform this beautiful piece, and allow expert multisensory guides to create a heightened world of smell, touch, taste, and movement. Individual requests and sensitivities will be taken fully into account.

This project is a collaboration between Vache Baroque, Milton’s Cottage and BitterSuite, gathering a highly experienced and brilliant team of multi-disciplinary creatives.

Grounds will be open from 12pm until 8.30pm both days; the VB bar will be serving refreshments and guests are welcome to bring picnics. There will be three entry points into the house at 12.30pm, 3.30pm & 6.30pm. Guests will experience our signature pre-show installations, followed by a blindfolded multi-sensory performance lasting c. 45 minutes. Visit our FAQs page for more info about the VB experience.

Both Milton and Handel continued to create great art after they lost their sight. This project celebrates Buckinghamshire’s heritage as the birthplace of the Paralympics. Thanks to generous support from Buckinghamshire Council, on Tuesday 25 June we will present an adapted workshop-performance for the 20 congenitally deafblind young people in the county, together with their parents, carers and interveners. We strive to play our part in helping more people understand deafblindness and how it affects people during Deafblind Awareness Week 2024. We’re proud to be co-devising all aspects of this project with artists and local residents with vision impairment, as well as with specialist MSI teachers.

We are very grateful to Buckinghamshire Council and The Arts Society – Vale of Aylesbury for their generous support of this project.

Please detail any additional support (wheelchair access and spaces etc.) that you might need to make your visit an enjoyable one. Our box office team will be more than happy to assist you. We'll get in touch to confirm arrangements closer to the event.
