Proudly presented as part of the Tsitsit Jewish Fringe Festival.

A musical programme of sacred and secular vocal pieces by Rossi and his contemporaries from across Europe. Joyful prayers, lamenting solo songs, and passionate madrigals will be sung in Hebrew, Italian, Latin, and English, accompanied by the sounds of a chitarrone (a large lute popular at the time) and Baroque guitar.

Description

The second half of the concert will begin with a short Q&A with Rossi specialist Michelene Wandor.

Michelene is a musician and an award-winning writer: poet, dramatist and cultural commentator. Her early music group, ‘Siena’ produced the first CD in the UK of the music of Salomone Rossi – ‘Salamone Rossi Hebreo Mantovano’.

Her first novel, ‘Orfeo’s Last Act’ centres round Rossi, Monteverdi and music-making today.
